One of the most enjoyable experiences for
ladies is being able to go shopping to many classy, cultural and
designer shops. The area does indeed provide opportunities for all of
these. The best towns to visit for excellent shopping are Bergerac,
Bordeaux and Arcachon.
Bergerac
Bergerac
is the gateway to the Dordogne
and is only 20 minutes from the property. It specialises in local
produce and the markets are unique with all regional fresh
specialities and produce being sold.
Bordeaux
The attractive city centre, 1 hour from the
property, is easily explored on foot. Attractions include
upmarket shops and restaurants that serve food on a par with
the region's world-beating Bordeaux wines.
Bordeaux has a wealth of luxury stores
in the area known as the 'Golden Triangle'. In this area there are a
wide range of designer stores as well as two large shopping
centres, fabulous restaurants, many wine merchants and food
specialists (cheese, chocolates, delicatessens etc).
The
designer stores specialise in Clothes for both men, women and
children, Jewellery, Perfume, Beauty, Gifts.
In addition, the largest perfume store in
Europe, Parfumerie Baiser Sauvage, is also present for those who
wish to pay it a visit.
Bordeaux's gastronomic shops include
Baillard and Fromagerie Jean d-Alos. Baillard specialises in regional speciality cakes and chocolates. £11 will be able to buy you a
box of Canales, a regional cake that is caramelised on the outside and
soft and creamy on the inside. The Fromagerie Jean d'Alos is a fine
example of a cheese specialist where a wide variety are matured
and sold.
Wine can be bought in Bordeaux from
any number of locations. Most of which offer, not only sales, but
advice and tastings. They range from basic wine stores to the superior
and outstanding, £1,013 is the cost of a case of 'en primeur
2001', Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, which will be bottled in 2004.

Arcachon
Arcachon is a situated about 1 ½
hours from the property and is certainly well worth the drive, to
experience the shopping and restaurants. The restaurants
are world renowned for their seafood, especially their oysters, which
are cultivated within the Arcachon Basin.
For those who do not find the attraction of shopping and eating
compelling, Arcachon offers two excellent golf courses as well as the
world famous Dune de Pylat (highest sand dune in Europe)
