The whole of the Dordogne area boasts a vast array of pre-historic
history, in particular the prehistoric stone dwellings and their wall
paintings. From this rich pre-historic culture a number of parks have
been developed, one of which is detailed below.
Préhisto-parc
was designed with the help of J-L Heim, Professor at the Museum
National d’Histoire Naturelle and the Institut de Paléontologie
Humaine. The Vézère valley, an UNESCO World Heritage site, is an
amazing voyage through 100,000 years! At Préhistoparc, relax as you
experience a unique moment in history.
The park is situated about 1-½ hours east of the property and is
located near all the famous caves.
Open daily from 1 March to 11 November – from 10 am to 6 pm
Summer opening hours: July and August – 9.30 am to 7.30 pm
What Will You See?
Life-size
scenes of the daily life of the earliest Neanderthal hunters have been
recreated for the first time ever. At the heart of a 5-hectare park,
explanatory panels help you to understand their ways and customs. As
you walk through the park, you will be plunged into the fascinating
world of prehistoy.
Inside the recreation of a prehistoric settlement
discovered in Siberia, you will follow a themed trail that will guide
you from the time of your ancestors through to modern-day archaeology.
At Préhisto-parc, you will also meet Bernard
Ginelli, an internationally famous sculptor, who will show you how to
shape a flint or use a spear thrower, for which he holds the title of
European Champion 2000.
